According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued an orange alert in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. According to private forecaster AccuWeather, the day will be cloudy with a drenching thunderstorm in the morning followed by a little rain this afternoon while the night will be cloudy with occasional rain and a thunderstorm.
Train services on the Western Railway were, however, disrupted again on Tuesday evening after water levels rose above the danger mark between Vasai and Virar stations following heavy rain, officials said.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said it received 38 complaints of tree and branch falls, including nine in the island city, 17 in the eastern suburbs and 12 in the western suburbs. No injuries were reported in these incidents. It also received two complaints of short circuits and 10 complaints of partial house or wall collapses during the day.
All government, private and civic-run schools and colleges in Mumbai will function normally today. However, Palghar schools are shut today as a precautionary measure.

Mumbai Rains Live: Debate On Incidents Related To Rain In Assembly
The Maharashtra assembly on Wednesday witnessed a brief exchange between Speaker Rahul Narwekar and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray over the "act of God" in connection with heavy rains and related incidents in the state. Opposition members protested the delay in taking up the rain situation issue, saying it was the most pressing concern before the House.
Speaker Narwekar said the House would take up the short-duration discussion on Thursday.
He, however, made a mention of climate change for the monsoon fury, which, he said, cannot be controlled.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ashwini Bhide said Mumbai cannot completely eliminate potholes until all roads are concretised, as frequent utility work beneath roads and continuous monsoon rains make permanent repairs difficult.
Bhide said the city's pothole problem will reduce substantially only after all roads concretised, with work expected to continue through 2027.

Tulsi lake, the smallest of Mumbai's seven water supply reservoirs, began overflowing at 11.43 pm on Tuesday, nearly three hours after Vihar started overflowing at 9 pm, the BMC said.
Modak Sagar was 72% full, Tansa nearly 69%, Bhatsa 36%, Middle Vaitarna 35 per cent and Upper Vaitarna 21%, while Vihar and Tulsi were at full capacity after overflowing on Tuesday night.

Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said the movement of mail and express trains remained suspended from 7.20 pm on Tuesday till 6.50 am on Wednesday due to waterlogging near a bridge close to Sachin station in the Surat area. Train operations resumed after the water receded. He said 39 trains had been cancelled, 21 short-terminated and 46 rescheduled so far due to the disruption.

Restoration work in the Bhor Ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala stations was still underway following the landslide earlier this week, he said. As a result, several long-distance trains have been diverted, cancelled or short-terminated.

Suburban services on a section of the Central Railway (CR) network were delayed after ballast beneath the tracks was washed away between Neral and Shelu stations in neighbouring Raigad district due to heavy rainfall in the early hours.
The ballast washout near Neral station was noticed at around 4 am. Both tracks were attended to immediately and train services resumed before 6.15 am, CR Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila told PTI.

Mumbai Rains Live: Reversing BEST Bus Hits Multiple Vehicles
A 43-year-old pedestrian was injured after a reversing BEST electric bus hit him and four vehicles in Mumbai's Bhandup area on Wednesday morning.
As per preliminary information, the accident occurred in Konkan Nagar at around 8.30 am, they said.
The bus, belonging to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) civic undertaking, apparently went out of control while reversing and rammed into three parked motorcycles and an autorickshaw before hitting the pedestrian, police said.
Atul Anand Padve, a local resident, suffered a minor leg injury and was rushed to M T Agrawal Hospital for treatment.

According to information received from local residents, three people — two men and one woman — sustained injuries in the collapse. They were shifted to a nearby private hospital in a private vehicle before fire brigade personnel reached the spot.
The injured were identified as Khushabu Khan (27), who suffered a minor head injury; Ashish Singh (40), who sustained a minor injury to his left hand; and Sunil Yadav (30), who suffered a minor injury to his right leg. All three received treatment at Deepansh Clinic and were discharged after medical examination and care.

Mumbai Rains Live: Rainfall Deficit Comes Down To 12%
The Centre said that the rainfall deficit has come down to 12% with the first week of July recording above-normal monsoon activity, and asserted that an El Nino year may not necessarily lead to below-normal rainfall.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in the context of the progress of the kharif season and possible impact due to El Nino on other sectors of the economy, a high-level review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary to Prime Minister PK Mishra to review and take stock of the preparedness measures undertaken in this regard.
