The Nifty now trades at about 17.5 times one-year forward earnings, below its 15-year average of around 19.6 times. India's premium over other emerging markets has also narrowed to a 10-year low. So, the market is certainly cheaper than it was.

Among sectors, gains were seen in Nifty Realty, Nifty Auto, Nifty Metals, Nifty Private Bank and Nifty FMCG, while Nifty IT, Nifty Pharma dn Nifty Oil & Gas reeled under selling pressure.

The Nifty 50 fell to its lowest level in 117 sessions and traded at levels last seen on April 7. The Sensex reached its lowest level in 73 sessions, falling to levels last seen on June 11.

IT Q2 earnings season kicks off in October, with TCS, HCLTech, Infosys and others set to report results, dividends and key business trends.

Nifty Metal rose 2.22%, while Nifty Realty, Nifty Private Bank and Nifty PSU Bank gained between 1.14% and 1.52%. Nifty IT fell 0.97%, while Nifty Media declined 0.47%.

The lender has not shared any update on declaration of dividend along with second quarter results.

The Board of Directors will also consider the declaration of an interim dividend to the equity shareholders.

Broader markets also ended lower, with the Nifty Small Cap 100 index settling 0.21% lower and the Nifty Mid Cap index closing 0.09% lower.
