The Ministry of External Affairs has officially announced the commencement of registrations for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026, a pilgrimage of profound spiritual significance.

Devotees seeking to undertake this high-altitude journey to the sacred Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar must complete their applications via the official portal by May 19, 2026.

Timeline and Selection

The registration window opened on April 30 and will remain active for just under three weeks. Following the deadline, the MEA will conduct a computerized, gender-balanced random draw to finalize the merit list and batch allocations, likely by late May or early June. The Yatra itself is scheduled to take place during the peak summer months, from June to August 2026.

Routes and Costing

Pilgrims can choose between two primary trekking routes, each offering a distinct experience:

  • Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand): This route spans approximately 22 days and is priced at roughly Rs 2.09 lakh.
  • Nathu La (Sikkim): A slightly shorter 21-day trek, this route is more expensive, costing approximately Rs 3.31 lakh.

Prospective pilgrims should also account for additional expenses, including medical tests (approx. Rs 5,500), a Chinese visa fee (Rs 1,800), and various administrative pool funds.

Eligibility and Health Standards

  • Given the challenging conditions of high-altitude travel, the MEA has established strict health and citizenship criteria. Applicants must be Indian citizens, OCI card holders are not eligible, aged between 18 and 70 years.
  • A key physical requirement is a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or below, along with a comprehensive medical clearance. Passports must remain valid until at least March 2027, six months post-September 1, 2026.

How to Apply

The application process is entirely digital. Interested citizens must visit the official Kailash Mansarovar Yatra portal, fill out the comprehensive online form, and upload the necessary documentation, including passport copies and photographs. Upon selection, pilgrims are required to submit an indemnity bond and an emergency evacuation undertaking to finalize their participation.
