India has urged Iran to ensure that commercial shipping and seafarers are not targeted as hostilities continue to escalate in the region. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said he spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi over the phone on Friday and conveyed New Delhi's deep concerns over the ongoing conflict.

The minister said India had strongly urged that attacks on commercial shipping and seafarers be avoided under any circumstances, reiterating that New Delhi condemns such attacks regardless of who is responsible.

"Strongly urged that attacks on commercial shipping and seafarers be avoided under any circumstance. India condemns any such attack by any party," he said.
Jaishankar added that Araghchi briefed him on Iran's assessment of the evolving situation and the discussions currently underway.
He also reiterated India's longstanding position in favour of a diplomatic resolution. "Was apprised of Iran's perspective of current developments and discussions underway. India is always supportive of dialogue and diplomacy," Jaishankar said.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region that have raised concerns over the safety of key maritime trade routes and commercial vessels.
