Who Is Peter Attia? CBS News Contributor Quits Over Epstein Files Fallout

Longevity specialist Dr Peter Attia has withdrawn from his role as a contributor at CBS News, a spokesperson for the broadcaster confirmed on Monday. The move comes around three weeks after emails linking Attia to Jeffrey Epstein entered the public domain.

Records released by the US Justice Department show Attia is referenced more than 1,700 times in around three million documents connected to the Epstein investigation.

"Dr Attia's contributor role was newly established and had not yet meaningfully begun. As such, he stepped back to ensure his involvement didn't become a distraction from the important work being done at CBS. He wishes the network and its leadership well and has no further comment at this time," a spokesperson for Attia said, according to a Reuters report.

The documents indicate that Dr Peter Attia carried out wide-ranging medical tests and offered health advice to Jeffrey Epstein. The revelations drew criticism from doctors across the profession, reported The New York Times (NYT).

Who Is Dr Peter Attia?

According to his official website, “Peter Attia, MD, is the founder of Early Medical, a medical practice that applies the principles of Medicine 3.0 to patients with the goal of simultaneously lengthening their lifespan and increasing their healthspan.”

Attia is also the host of The Peter Attia Drive, one of the most widely followed podcasts dedicated to health and medical science. He is renowned for penning the bestselling book Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity.

Dr Peter Attia earned his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine before completing five years of general surgery training at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

He later spent two years at the National Institutes of Health as a surgical oncology fellow at the National Cancer Institute, where his work centred on immune-based treatments for melanoma.

Attia is based in Austin, where he lives with his wife and their three children.

According to NBC News, CBS News enlisted him in January as one of several new contributors under editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, who was appointed by Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison to spearhead efforts to reinvigorate the organisation's news arm.

Attia has not been charged with any offence, and his inclusion in the Epstein material is not evidence of illegal behaviour. Even so, the repercussions have been immediate and far-reaching, culminating in his departure from CBS News, as reported by Men's Journal. Peter Attia has also resigned from his position as chief science officer at David protein bars, according to a statement posted by the company's CEO on X.
