Nifty ended below 23,400 level for the first time since May 13 while Sensex closed over 500 points lower. The Nifty 50 fell as much as 0.70% to 23,382.60 after rising as much as 0.8% to 23,733.70 earlier in the session. The Sensex fell as much as 0.68% to 74,267.34, nearly 1,000 points below the day's high of 75,357.93.

While the Indian markets closed in red, Wall Street is expected to open in green with Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq are set to climb close to record highs amid a tech rally. European markets traded mixed, with the CAC 40 rising 0.01% and the IBEX 35 fell 0.09%. The STOXX Europe 600 fell 0.23%, while the FTSE MIB rose 0.05%. Germany's DAX gained 0.18% and the FTSE 100 was down 0.21%.

Meanwhile, oil prices rose after Israel ordered troops to move deeper into Lebanon, raising concerns that clashes with Hezbollah could affect the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. Brent crude futures rose 3.23% to $94.06 a barrel on Monday, while West Texas Intermediate futures gained 3.87% to $90.74 per barrel.

The shares of Maruti Suzuki fell 1.27% to Rs 12,960 per share. This comes amid the Maruti Suzuki May Sales call. The company said that it has not given any export targets due to uncertain global situation. However, it expect to atleast get last year's export number of 4.47 lakh units.
