The US military earlier said that it carried out strikes on Iran following the crash of an Army helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz that President Donald Trump blamed on the Islamic Republic. Tehran vowed to respond.

Iranian forces "will leave no attack or threat unanswered", Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on the social platform X. "Leave our region if you want to be safe."

Since the US and Israel began striking Iran on February 28, the war has shaken the global economy, driven up energy prices around the world and made many basics, including food, more expensive.

Officials have been unable to turn the April ceasefire into a deal to permanently end the conflict, particularly as Israel intensifies and expands its military campaign in Lebanon against the Iranian-backed militia Hezbollah.

Donald Trump has claimed that millions of barrels of oil has come out of Iran and this is why oil prices have not jumped exponentially.

“We’ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil – millions of barrels,” the US president has claimed.

“Every night, we took that oil,” he said, adding: “Millions of barrels of oil has come out and that’s why it’s at $85-90 a barrel instead of $250.”

Trump also said those prices would drop as soon as the war ends.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the U.S. would hit Iran "very hard" again, escalating his public threats as he pressed Tehran to sign a deal.

"We hit them hard yesterday, and we're going to hit them hard again today," Trump said in televised remarks. "We're going to be attacking them and attacking them very hard."

Trump said Iran "should sign the deal" and said the US wants an agreement "that's meaningful and works."
