Iran launched two ballistic missiles towards the United Arab Emirates, with one falling outside the country's territorial waters and another coming down within them, the UAE Ministry of Defence said, according to Al Jazeera.

The development came after the UAE issued a missile threat alert, putting its air-defence systems on heightened readiness.

According to the UAE Defence Ministry, its air defences “detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward the country”.

The ministry said the first missile fell outside UAE territorial waters, while the second fell within the country's territorial waters.

“The Ministry of Defense confirms that it is on high alert and fully prepared to deal with any threats, and to firmly confront anything aimed at undermining the security of the state, thereby ensuring the preservation of its sovereignty, security, and stability, and protecting its interests and national capabilities,” the ministry said in a statement published on X, as cited by Al Jazeera.

Earlier the United Arab Emirates' said that its air defence systems detected a missile threat directed towards the country on Tuesday evening, prompting authorities to issue an emergency alert to people in Dubai and urge residents to follow official warnings and updates.

An emergency alert was sent to people in Dubai as the security situation unfolded, advising residents to remain alert and stay safe. Authorities urged the public to rely only on information issued through official channels and avoid speculation or unverified reports.

The UAE Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems had detected the incoming missile threat and were fully prepared to respond.

The latest incident adds to growing regional tensions as Iran's conflict with the US and Israel continues to spill over into Gulf states. Al Jazeera has previously reported multiple missile and drone attacks involving the UAE and other Gulf countries, with regional governments reporting interceptions by their air-defence systems.

The UAE has repeatedly reported intercepting Iranian missiles and drones amid the escalating conflict, while Tehran has targeted military and strategic sites across the Gulf.
