Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has sharply criticised the United States, accusing Washington of pressing Tehran for concessions that were never part of the existing agreement.

In a post on X, Ghalibaf criticised US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, dismissing their approach towards Iran and mocking the expectations surrounding Washington's strategy.

“Americans think squeezing Iran harder will win concessions that were never part of the agreement,” Ghalibaf said on X.

He further took aim at Bessent and Hegseth, saying the two US officials were “way out of their league” and accusing them of attempting to find a way out of a situation created by their own policies.

“Stop waiting for the clown crew to pull a rabbit out of their hat and clean up the mess you made,” he added.

Ghalibaf's remarks come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, with the US continuing to press Iran over its policies and seeking greater concessions.

The Iranian parliament speaker's comments reflect Tehran's increasingly confrontational rhetoric towards the Trump administration, as both sides remain sharply divided over the terms and scope of any potential agreement.

Ghalibaf has previously been a prominent critic of US pressure on Iran, maintaining that Tehran would not accept demands that go beyond commitments already agreed upon.

The latest comments shows the deep mistrust between the two countries and suggest that Washington's pressure campaign could face strong resistance from Iran.
