Visa applications have skyrocketed by 68% for this year's summer vacation, compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from digital visa platform Atlys.
A staggering 45.5% rise in visa applications in 2024 over 2023 set the tone for this momentum, with hotspots like Dubai, Egypt, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia witnessing year-on-year growth between 22% and 51%.
For 2025, Schengen countries, along with the United States, and the United Arab Emirates are emerging as top picks, fueled by early bookings. Gen Z is leading the charge, opting for experience-driven trips, shorter stays, and spontaneous adventures, with Indonesia, Egypt, and Japan topping the charts for immersive journeys.
Rise Of First-Time International Travellers
An exciting trend this summer is the wave of first-time international travellers opting for destinations with hassle-free visas and affordable travel. Countries like Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Azerbaijan are benefiting from this influx, offering a seamless entry for eager Indian explorers.
“This uptick reflects a collective desire to explore cultures, try new experiences, and make the most of their vacation time. Whether it's seasoned adventurers checking off bucket-list countries or first-time explorers seeking convenience and affordability, it's clear that travel is evolving into a true lifestyle priority," said Mohak Nahta, founder and CEO of Atlys.
Multi-Country Mania
A new travel hack is taking off—"multi-country summer getaways." Rather than planning multiple separate trips, travellers are optimising visa approvals and budget airfares to tick off multiple destinations in one go.
A growing demand for Schengen visas being used for extended itineraries across France, Spain, and Italy, making Europe a top contender for Indian tourists in 2025, according to Atlys.
This shift marks a strategic approach to travel, where Indians are keen on maximising their experiences per trip, blending adventure with smart planning.
