New leaks have revealed key details about the upcoming Apple iPhone 18, including possible upgrades, design expectations and a likely delay in its release timeline. Reports suggest that the standard model may now launch in early 2027, indicating a shift in Apple's usual rollout strategy.

Talking about expected upgrades, the base iPhone 18 could come with 12GB RAM, a step up from what Apple has traditionally offered in its standard models. This would bring it closer to the Pro lineup in terms of raw capability. For users, that likely means smoother multitasking and better handling of demanding apps.

The phone is also tipped to run on a new A20 chip. Reports suggest this chip could be built on a 2nm architecture, which is more advanced than current-generation processors. In simple terms, this could translate to faster speeds without a big hit on battery life. Apps opening quicker and fewer slowdowns during heavy use are some of the expected benefits.

Besides, Apple has been steadily pushing its AI capabilities, and future updates may rely more heavily on on-device processing. Features like a smarter Siri and AI-driven tools will need more power and the iPhone 18 seems designed to support that.

With more RAM and a next-gen chip, the device could handle these features more efficiently.

A Different Launch Approach

Interestingly, Apple may also tweak its release strategy. Reports indicate that the Pro models could launch first in late 2026, with the standard iPhone 18 following in 2027. This change in strategy may help the company deal with rising component costs, especially for high-end parts like memory and chips.

Design And Camera Expectations

In terms of design, the phone is expected to feature a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. A slightly smaller Dynamic Island could also be introduced for a bit more usable screen space.

Additionally, the front camera could move to 24MP, which may improve selfies and video calls. There are also reports that Apple might simplify the Camera Control button, possibly as a cost-cutting measure.

Interestingly, Apple's focus may not be limited to this device as a foldable iPhone is reportedly in the works for 2026. It is possible the new phone could shift some attention away from the standard model.
