"With the US 10-year bond yield rising further to 5.3%, FIIs may continue to sell. An apparent contradiction in the FII activity is that even while selling through the exchanges, they have been consistently investing through the primary market and also buying expensive mid-and small-caps. While FIIs sold equity for Rs 45,536 crore through the exchanges in September, they invested Rs 9,676 crore through the primary market,'' said Dr. V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Ltd.
''The strength in the US bond yields and expectations of further weakness in the Indian large-caps might be the reason for this apparently inconsistent FII activity. This appears to be a short-term phase in the market. Things will turnaround when crude declines. And there is hope on that front with the Brent crude declining below $98. Investors can use this weak phase in the market to accumulate high-quality stocks, particularly large-caps in growth segments where the risk-reward ratio is favourable for investment,'' added Dr. V K Vijayakumar.

Stock Market Today Live Updates: Axis Capital Hikes Target To Rs 7,210 On Persistent Systems, Retains 'Buy'
Axis Capital analysts Ravi Menon, Rohit Thorat and Rushabh Jain have retained their ‘Buy' rating on Persistent Systems and raised the target price to Rs 7,210 from Rs 6,980, citing the potential removal of a key overhang around Nagarro following Persistent's increased stake in the company. The key trigger, according to the analysts, is Persistent Systems' stake in Nagarro rising to 83.25% following the open offer.
This makes Nagarro's delisting possible and, in Axis Capital's view, reduces concerns around delayed synergies and the possibility of Persistent having to make higher payouts to complete the process. The brokerage has kept its valuation multiple unchanged at 32x September 2028 estimated P/E, while factoring in revenue synergies into its FY28 estimates.
Stock Market Today Live Updates: CLSA Retains 'Hold' On Vodafone Idea, Eyes Debt Clearance
Brokerage firm CLSA has retained its ‘Hold' rating on Vodafone Idea, with a target price of Rs 13 per share, as it flagged the telecom operator's sizeable spectrum liabilities and the sharp increase in government repayments from FY29. According to CLSA, Vodafone Idea has planned to raise around Rs 350 billion ($3.7 billion) in bank debt to support its targeted Rs 450 billion ($4.7 billion) network investments over FY27-FY29.
However, the brokerage said investors need to look beyond the proposed debt raise, given the company's substantial spectrum repayment obligations. Vodafone Idea's estimated spectrum debt stands at around Rs 1.3 trillion ($13.7 billion). While repayments to the government are relatively manageable at Rs 67-167 billion annually in FY27 and FY28, these obligations are expected to rise sharply to around Rs 270 billion ($2.8 billion) annually from FY29, CLSA said.
Stock Market Today Live Updates: Could Apollo, Fortis, Max Health Face A Profit Hit From Medicine Price Curbs?
Hospital stocks are back in focus as brokerages assess how potential regulation of medicine mark-ups could affect profitability. Views remain mixed, with brokerages estimating anything from a 2-5% hit to hospital EBITDA to a worst-case 7-9% impact, depending on the extent of pricing controls and how much hospitals can offset through treatment-package repricing.
The debate follows Supreme Court observations on medicine mark-ups at private hospitals. The Court had raised questions over the spread between purchase prices and MRP and whether the existing 16% margin cap for scheduled drugs could be extended to a wider set of medicines. The matter is scheduled for another hearing on October 12, 2026.
Macquarie estimates that medicines, consumables and implants accounted for around 21% of private hospital revenue in FY26. Axis Capital said pharmacy remains a high-margin business for hospitals and therefore an area exposed to regulatory scrutiny. However, it views the medicine mark-up example cited by the Supreme Court as an exception rather than the norm.
Jefferies estimates a more modest 2-5% impact on hospital EBITDA, arguing that hospital chains have multiple levers to absorb the effect of potential price cuts. Its preferred names, in order, are Fortis, Manipal Hospitals, Apollo Hospitals, Max Health and Medanta. HSBC said pricing-control discussions could ultimately apply only to select drug classes. It flagged government-scheme exposure of 17-21% of revenue for Max Health, Fortis, Global Health and Narayana Health, compared with 9-11% for Aster and Apollo Hospitals, and 14% for Manipal Health.
Stock Market Today Live Updates: Citi Favours Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Hyundai; BofA Sees Tata Motors Best Placed After CAFE-III Norms
The long-awaited CAFE-III rules have finally removed one of the biggest regulatory uncertainties hanging over India's passenger vehicle industry — and brokerages are already drawing sharply different conclusions on which automakers are best positioned for the transition.
Citi sees the new framework as more stringent than the earlier CAFE-I and CAFE-II regimes, but believes the clarity around the final rules is a positive for the sector. In passenger vehicles, Citi's preferred order is Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai, while it has a Sell rating on Tata Motors' passenger vehicle business.

Bank of America (BofA) Securities, meanwhile, believes the final CAFE-III norms favour electric vehicles, although the concessions and compliance flexibility soften the transition requirements. On current emissions, BofA sees Tata Motors and Maruti as the best placed to meet the norms, while M&M and Hyundai get some respite because of their relatively lower compliance requirements.
