Sensex was up 0.6% at 78,013, after rising as much as 1.2% to 78,526 earlier in the session.

The Nifty 50 closed 1.74% lower near the 24,000 mark, while the Sensex ended nearly 1,400 points lower around 77,500 after a volatile trading session. Crude prices had earlier spiked close to $120 per barrel in the largest intraday jump on record before easing from the highs later in the session.

On Friday, the benchmark indices resumed rout after a breather on Thursday. Sensex fell over 1,000 points and the Nifty settled near 24,450.

At the close, both Sensex and Nifty pared some of the day's gains after Bloomberg clarified that the Iranian deputy foreign minister's comment was made earlier during talks with the US.

Bitcoin rallied as much as 5.7% to briefly surpass the $71,890 mark.

Crypto markets, which trade 24/7, were rattled in the hours after the bombing began. Iran launched counterstrikes on multiple locations — including Israel, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain — and threatened more against US linked bases in Iraq.

Bitcoin dropped as much as 3.8% to $63,038.

The broader markets, represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index, outperformed the benchmark indices, led by Concord Biotech's 13% rally, followed by Usha Martin's 6% gain.

Twelve out of 15 sectoral gauges compiled by the NSE traded lower, led by the NSE Nifty IT Index's 2.7% fall.

Eleven out of 15 sectoral gauges compiled by the NSE ended higher, led by the NSE Nifty PSU Bank Index's 1.4% gains.

The Sensex fell as much as 0.8% to 83,073. The Nifty 50 declined as much as 0.7% to below 25,600. The Nifty Pharma index was the only sectoral gainer.

The BSE Sensex rose nearly 300 points to end at 83,734.25, while the NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.4% to end above 25,800.

The Nifty closed 0.2% or 42 points higher at 25,725 and the Sensex ended 173.81 points higher at 83,450.96.

Sensex rose over 650 to 83,277, recovering over 1,000 points from the day's low. and the Nifty gained 0.8% to end near 25,700.

On Friday, the 30-stock index fell over 1,000 points, while the 50-stock index fell 1.3%. About 2,885 shares declined and 1,315 stocks advanced on BSE.
