Heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms are expected in parts Maharashtra today, July 6, with the India Meterological Department issuing red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad. As heavy downpour is forecasted, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has instructed all government, private and municipal schools and colleges across Mumbai to remain closed on Monday.
On Sunday, July 5, heavy and continous rainfall lashed parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai and Thane, on Sunday, hampering daily lives of residents. Severe waterlogging was reported in several districts.

The Brihanmumbai Metropolitan Corporation declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai city, via an 'X' post.
"The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall (Orange Alert) for the Mumbai metropolitan area on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, along with an alert for gusty winds.
In view of this, keeping in mind the safety of students, a holiday is being declared tomorrow, Tuesday, July 7, 2026, for government, private, municipal schools, and colleges in Mumbai," the post said.
