Mumbai's seven lakes, which supply drinking water to the city, collectively held 13,82,624 million litres of water, were full to 95.53% of their total live storage capacity as of 6 am on Monday, August 24, according to the Hydraulic Engineer's Department at the Bhandup Master Control Centre, as reported by Mid-day.

Vihar and Modak Sagar were at 100% capacity as of Monday morning according to the latest figures from the civic water department. The Upper Vaitarna reservoir recorded the lowest storage level among the seven lakes at 89.32% according to the same report.

The seven reservoirs that form Mumbai's water supply network are Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar (Vehar), and Tulsi.

The latest figure showed that Mumbai had more water in its reservoirs overall for the monsoon, though the combined storage was slightly less than the same time last year.

The seven lakes are crucial to Mumbai's drinking water supply, and their storage levels are closely monitored by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) throughout the monsoon through its Hydraulic Engineer's Department.

The combined storage figure is based on useful live storage, rather than the gross physical volume of the reservoirs. With two reservoirs already at full capacity and several others above 95%, the latest figures point to a substantial improvement in Mumbai's water reserves during the 2026 monsoon.
