SpiceJet Gains on New Services For Flyers
SpiceJet shares in early trade gained over 4 per cent to Rs 18.70, after the budget carrier on Tuesday announced that it would offer four new ancillary services to flyers. The move comes on the back of aviation regulator DGCA or Directorate General of Civil Aviation allowing domestic carriers to charge for extra services such as choice seat and extra baggage among others.

SpiceJet flyers can now for an extra fee beat long queues at check-in counters and also have their luggage the first to come out from the conveyor belt after they have landed.

Here is the list of services that SpiceJet customers can avail:

Spice Assist: It is a service that provides assistance to SpiceJet passengers at the airport for both departure and arrival. At an introductory fee of Rs. 500 per passenger per sector, SpiceJet's airport staff will assist customers from check-in to the boarding gate, and thereafter at arrival from the baggage claim area to ground transportation.

Priority Check-In: The service will allow passengers to beat the queue by checking-in at specially designated priority check-in counters. SpiceJet will charge a fee of Rs 200 per passenger one-way.

Bag-Out-First: It is a service where SpiceJet will ensure the customer's baggage will be first out on the baggage claim belt along with other priority-tagged bags. At a cost of Rs 100 per bag, this service is aimed at saving time for passengers who are in a hurry, but have checked-in luggage.

Spice Assurance: This service - for Rs 35 per flight - will compensate flyers for baggage loss, flight delays and cancellations beyond the usual compensation amounts.

Spice Assist, Priority Check-in, and Spice Assurance services must be bought at least two hours prior to the scheduled departure time of the flight, SpiceJet said. The bag-out-first service can, however, be bought in advance, or at the time of check-in, it added.

The SpiceJet stock on Tuesday ended flat 0.56 per cent at Rs 17.95, underperforming the broader markets which ended 1.35 per cent higher.

The aviation regulator last month allowed airlines to charge extra for availing facilities such as preferred seats and use of lounges among others.
