The Iranian military has issued a stark warning to the international maritime community, stating that vessels from nations complying with United States-led sanctions against Iran will face significant disruptions when navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a report by the Tasnim news agency, an Iranian Army spokesperson cautioned that Tehran is prepared to leverage its strategic position over the world's most vital oil chokepoint to respond to international pressure, asserting that any country following the sanctions will “definitely face problems when passing through” the waterway.
The announcement marks a sharp escalation in regional tensions, as the Strait remains a critical artery for global energy supplies, with nearly a fifth of the world's daily oil consumption transiting its waters.

Iranian legislators have confirmed the drafting of a new bill aimed at formalising Iran's sovereign control over the Strait of Hormuz. The proposed legislation reportedly includes stringent clauses that would grant Tehran the authority to strictly forbid the passage of vessels belonging to "hostile states."
He stated that "none of the enemy's objectives were achieved" in recent military confrontations, maintaining that Iran's strategic and political stability remains fully intact.
"Rather, unity and cohesion inside were strengthened, which we still witness with the presence of people in the streets," he added. He asserted that the enemy saw it "truly could not break this resistance" and was "ultimately forced to accept a ceasefire."
According to the spokesperson, the Iranian armed forces have strengthened their capabilities, updated their strategic target bank, and recalibrated both defensive and offensive positions to ensure readiness for any future escalations.
The Strait of Hormuz remains the world's most critical maritime chokepoint, with a large share of global oil supply passing through its narrow waters daily. This move to formalize management of the waterway has sparked immediate concerns regarding global energy security and the potential for increased naval struggle in one of the world's most sensitive geopolitical corridors.
