OpenAI launched its new Artificial Intelligence model called GPT-4o along with a desktop version of ChatGPT on Monday. The new model is an update from the company's earlier GPT-4 model, which was launched just over a year ago. The letter ‘o' stands for omni and has a completely new user interface.
According to the Sam Altman-run company, the new model can comprehend and discuss images more efficiently. Elaborating on the feature, the blog stated when a user clicks an image of a menu in a foreign language, they can use ChatGPT- 4o to translate it, learn about the food's history and significance, and get recommendations.
OpenAI's chief technology officer Mira Murati stated users can use the new model for free. Paid users of GPT-4o will have greater capacity limits than the company's free users. The GPT-4o model will be available in ChatGPT over the next few weeks, she added.
"... so far, GPT-4 class models have only been available to people who pay a monthly subscription. this is important to our mission; we want to put great AI tools in the hands of everyone," the OpenAI CEO said in a post on X.

GPT-4o will answer limited queries for free users. Once the user reaches the limit, they are switched to GPT-3.5.
ChatGPT: What Next?
In future, the company says, the advanced version of ChatGPT will encourage natural, and real-time voice conversations such that a user can converse with ChatGPT in real-time video. For instance, a user could share a sports video and the AI software can share the guidelines and rules for the game.
The new AI software can comprehend more than 50 languages, with improved quality and speed to access these languages.
"We are also starting to roll out to ChatGPT Free with usage limits today. Plus users will have a message limit that is up to 5x greater than free users, and Team and Enterprise users will have even higher limits," mentioned the OpenAI team in its blog.
The AI company has plans to launch the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS to improve user experience. Users can simply use the 'Option + Space' command to ask a quick question to ChatGPT. Users can also take screenshots in the app.
ChatGPT- 4o is designed with a voice mode feature with new audio and video capabilities. This feature can guide users to brainstorm business ideas or prepare for interviews on specific topics with a single click on the headphone icon on the bottom right corner and begin a voice conversation.
