A day after flagging 'unprecedented' risks around Anthropic's new AI model Mythos, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Indian banks are adequately prepared to meet technology-related challenges, while flagging the need for greater vigilance around risks linked to Anthropic's Mythos AI model.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Sitharaman said MeitY is in active engagement with authorities and governments globally to understand Mythos-related risks and their potential implications for the Indian banking system.
She added that India needs to be more versatile in countering newer threats, signalling that existing frameworks may need to be updated to keep pace with the rapidly evolving AI threat landscape.
As far as coordinated action within the banking sector is concerned, the Finance Minister said banks have been asked to work together on these concerns, with the Indian Banks' Association set to lead consultations among lenders.
This is quite significant given the nature of the threat Mythos represents. After all, the Anthropic model has drawn worldwide attention from a security perspective, including its ability to autonomously identify and exploit vulnerabilities in major operating systems and browsers.
