Suryakumar Yadav led India to a historic third ICC Men's T20 World Cup title on March 8, defeating New Zealand under the lights at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The victory made India the most successful team in the history of the tournament.
Put in to bat first, India posted a record T20 World Cup final score as Sanju Samson (89), Ishan Kishan (54) and Abhishek Sharma (52) fired in unison to take the team to a record-breaking 255/5. It was the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final and the third highest in the tournament's history.
Jasprit Bumrah underlined his credentials as the best bowler of his generation, with figures of 4/15, the best by a pacer in a T20 World Cup final, to help India bowl out New Zealand for just 159, sealing a thumping 96-run victory.
The triumph at Ahmedabad sees India become the only side to lift the T20 World Cup trophy thrice. It also marked the first successful title defence in the competition and the first time the trophy has been won by the host nation.
