Chennai Super Kings' IPL 2026 campaign has slipped into early crisis mode. Three losses in three matches have left the five-time champions rooted to the bottom of the table, exposing issues across both batting and game management.

Reinforcements though are on the horizon.

According a report from RevSportz, Dewald Brevis has recovered from a side strain and is available for the April 11 home clash against Delhi Capitals. MS Dhoni, sidelined so far with a calf injury, is targeting a return for the next home game against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14.

The staggered comebacks could define CSK's immediate future.

Brevis' availability provides an instant boost to a middle order that has lacked finishing consistency. The South African was highly effective last season, scoring 225 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 180, and is expected to slot in at No. 4.

CSK's younger batters have shown flashes. Sarfaraz Khan struck a 25-ball 50 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, while Ayush Mhatre impressed with a 73 off 43 balls against Punjab Kings. But the lack of an established aggressor has hurt their ability to close innings.

Dhoni's return, though not immediate, is expected to restore structure. Beyond wicketkeeping, his role in managing chases and setting fields has been notably absent, particularly in tight moments.

Top Order Under Pressure

The bigger concern remains at the top. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson have both failed to cross 30 in the first three games, repeatedly exposing the middle order early. That pattern has forced rebuilds and disrupted scoring tempo, contributing to the team's three-match winless start to the season.

Selection Calls Ahead

Brevis' inclusion will likely push one of Kartik Sharma or Prashant Veer out of the XI. Considering CSK played only three overseas players in their last game vs RCB, no further shuffle should be required to accommodate the South African.

When Dhoni returns, he is set to reclaim the gloves from Samson and slot in at No. 7. Samson is expected to continue as a specialist batter. Again it will likely be either Sharma or Veer to make way.

CSK have recovered from slow starts before, often with Dhoni at the centre of the turnaround. His expected return against KKR, a team CSK lead 20-11 in head-to-head meetings, could offer a familiar reset point.

But first comes Delhi Capitals. With Brevis back and the season already under pressure, CSK need an immediate response.
