Stock Market News Today Highlights: Hello and welcome to NDTV Profit's live coverage of stock market news today, with the top market directions in India, Asia Pacific and the West. From pre-market signals to the most buzzing stocks in trade, we bring you all top developments from D-Street to keep you updated throughout the day. The Indian stock market remained under pressure on Wednesday, with the Nifty 50 benchmark falling for the seventh straight session on rising crude oil prices.
High crude oil prices and rising global bond yields weighed on appetite for risk assets globally. The Nifty 50 index has logged its longest losing streak in 11 months, dropping 2.1% over the period. The BSE Sensex index has slumped in six out of last seven sessions, dipping 2.1%. The Indian rupee unit fell one paisa to close at 95.75 (provisional) against the US dollar.
On the day, the Nifty 50 slid 0.32% to 24,078.30 and the Sensex lost 0.42% to 76,909.68. The Nifty 50 benchmark stayed below the 24,100 mark throughout the session. Fourteen of the 16 major sectors logged losses. The broader small-caps and mid-caps dipped 0.5% and 0.2%, respectively. Bank Nifty shed 0.4%, dragged by 0.7% and 0.6% drop in ICICI Bank and Axis Bank. Nifty IT index rose 0.7%, defying the global tech selloff, after dropping 4% in the last three sessions.
Most Asian tech stocks slumped after bond yields in the US and elsewhere scored fresh milestones in the previous session. The 30-year Treasury yield hit a new 19-year high on Tuesday, while Japan's 10-year bond yield reached its highest level in three decades. On Wednesday, global bond yields again hovered near their highest for decades, as fears over sovereign debt pushed borrowing costs higher and rattled stock markets worldwide. The risk-averse mood has lent a little support to forex.
"Markets turned cautious ahead of the release of the US FOMC minutes, as investors remained concerned that the Federal Reserve's battle against inflation may continue. The lack of a diplomatic resolution following the end of the US-Iran ceasefire kept crude oil prices and bond yields elevated, strengthening risk-off sentiment,'' said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Ltd.
''Reflecting weakness across Asian markets, Indian equities saw broad-based selling, though IT stocks outperformed on value buying and support from a weaker rupee. As Q1FY27 earnings season draws to a close, corporate results have generally exceeded expectations, reinforcing confidence in earnings resilience. However, with temporary market tailwinds fading, the next phase of market performance will depend largely on the stability of crude oil supply chains,'' said Nair.

Stock Market News Today Live Updates: D-Street locked between losses
"The expiry of the temporary 60-day US-Iran ceasefire without any meaningful diplomatic breakthrough has renewed concerns over a prolonged disruption to energy supplies, driving crude oil prices higher and pushing long-term US Treasury yields to multi-year highs. The combination has triggered a broad risk-off mood across global financial markets," said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth-tech firm.
Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Ld. said, "The ongoing mild weakness in the market is driven mainly by two factors: one, the rising crude prices, and two, appreciating bond yields globally. Crude prices have been responding to news from the Middle East for many months since the start of the war. Now, there is total uncertainty about the outcome of this conflict. Crude prices are rising anticipating the continuation of the uncertainty. Fears of rising inflation are pushing bond yields higher.''
