Indian equity benchmarks resumed weekly declines, with both indices falling nearly 3% over the week. On Friday, the Nifty 50 slipped 46.10 points, or 0.19%, to close at 23,643.50, while the Sensex fell 160.73 points, or 0.21%, to 75,237.99.

In the currency market, The rupee slipped to a record low against the U.S. dollar in early trade. The local currency weakened past the 96 mark and depreciated as much as 96.03 against the dollar.

Meanwhile, Oil prices moved higher on Friday, with Brent crude trading towards $107 a barrel and heading for a weekly gain of about 5%. U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate traded near $102 a barrel, as disruptions linked to the Iran conflict continued to affect global supplies.

Brokerages also pointed to DBL’s transition to a diversified infrastructure platform under its DBL 2.0 strategy, supported by mining scale-up, InvIT monetisation and deleveraging plans.

  • Welspun Living approved a share buyback of up to Rs 252 crore, with plans to buy back 1.44 crore shares at Rs 175 per share.
  • In Q4, net profit fell 21.3% year-on-year to Rs 104 crore, while revenue declined 8% to Rs 2,435 crore. EBITDA dropped 21.1% to Rs 249 crore, with margin narrowing to 10.2% from 11.9%. Other income rose to Rs 15.8 crore from Rs 2.3 crore a year earlier.

  • Merchandise exports rose 13.8% year-on-year to $43.56 billion, while imports increased 10% to $71.94 billion. Services exports stood at $37.24 billion, while services imports were $16.66 billion.

  • Brokerages said the Rs 3 per litre hike in petrol and diesel prices may offer only partial relief. BofA said the move could add around 15 basis points to CPI inflation over May–June and reduce oil marketing company losses by about Rs 110 crore per day, but expects more hikes ahead.
  • Morgan Stanley said the increase covers roughly a third of current transport fuel losses and noted that HPCL stands to benefit the most, followed by BPCL. It said fuel price hikes improve long-term profitability for oil marketing companies.

Stock Market Live: Fuel Price Hike May Cushion OMC Losses From Higher Crude

  • BPCL, HPCL and IOCL raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre each, effective Friday, in their first hike since April 2022.
  • Every Rs 0.5 per litre increase in fuel marketing margins is estimated to lift EBITDA by 7% for IOCL, 8% for BPCL and 11% for HPCL. A Rs 3 per litre hike would imply a six-fold impact on that metric.
  • Based on those estimates, EBITDA could improve by about 42% for IOCL, 48% for BPCL and 66% for HPCL. The benefit may provide a partial cushion against the Rs 1-1.2 lakh crore cumulative loss expected for oil marketing companies in the first quarter of fiscal 2026-27.
