The GIFT Nifty, an early indicator of Nifty 50's performance, traded at 23,768. On Thursday, Indian equity benchmarks ended higher for the second consecutive trading session. The Nifty 50 ended 277 points, or 1.18%, higher at 23,689.60, while the Sensex rose 789.74 points, or 1.06%, to 75,398.72 amid F&O expiry.

Meanwhile, Oil prices moved higher on Friday, with Brent crude trading towards $107 a barrel and heading for a weekly gain of about 5%. U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate traded near $102 a barrel, as disruptions linked to the Iran conflict continued to affect global supplies.

Elsewhere, South Korea's Kospi crossed the 8,000 mark for the first time on Friday, rising more than 0.6% in early trade. The small-cap Kosdaq fell 0.4%. Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 0.89%, while the Topix rose 1.18%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 advanced 0.42%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng futures traded at 26,341, below the previous close of 26,389.04.

  • Capri Global Capital crossed 1,000 gold loan branches, while M&M Financial approved raising up to Rs 3,000 crore via NCDs. NTPC Green’s subsidiary declared COD for two solar units in Rajasthan. Adani Power said the GVK bid has CCI clearance but is still under CoC review. Patel Engineering will sell its entire stake in ACP Tollways for Rs 55 crore, while Indian Overseas Bank cut its base rate by 10 basis points to 9.70%.
  • Akums Drugs said operations at some Haridwar units are disrupted due to labour unrest. Caplin Point’s arm received US FDA approval for Foscarnet Sodium Injection. HDB Financial appointed a new non-executive chairman and fixed June 18 as record date for a Rs 2 dividend. Kirloskar Oil Engines announced a Rs 1,400 crore capex plan, while Pricol named Vikram Mohan as chairman following a board change.

  • The U.S. Energy Secretary briefed senior executives from the American nuclear industry ahead of their visit to India next week to explore cooperation opportunities in the civil nuclear sector.
  • A 20-member U.S. industry delegation will meet Indian government and private sector officials following India’s move to open the sector to private players. Discussions are expected to include joint projects and cooperation in small modular reactors.

Stock Market Live: Fuel Price Hike May Cushion OMC Losses From Higher Crude

  • BPCL, HPCL and IOCL raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre each, effective Friday, in their first hike since April 2022.
  • Every Rs 0.5 per litre increase in fuel marketing margins is estimated to lift EBITDA by 7% for IOCL, 8% for BPCL and 11% for HPCL. A Rs 3 per litre hike would imply a six-fold impact on that metric.
  • Based on those estimates, EBITDA could improve by about 42% for IOCL, 48% for BPCL and 66% for HPCL. The benefit may provide a partial cushion against the Rs 1-1.2 lakh crore cumulative loss expected for oil marketing companies in the first quarter of fiscal 2026-27.

  • Petrol and diesel prices were increased by Rs 3 per litre each on Friday, May 15, as oil companies passed on part of the rise in global energy prices to consumers.
