The early trends are in for the West Bengal election, as the Election Commission counts vote for 293 assembly seats today. The initial signs favour the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is seeking to challenge the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamul Congress (TMC).

As per these early trends, the BJP is leading in 160 seats compared to TMC's 116 seats, whereas Congress has managed to lead two seats.

Geography-wise trends suggest BJP has maintained its dominance in North Bengal while TMC remains strong in districts such as North and South 24 Parganas, as well as Howrah.

BJP, on the other hand, is leading in Nadia - a key stronghold, the northern district of Alipurduar and Malda. More importantly, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari appears to be leading in Nandigram, a hotly contested constituency.

However, these are still early trends and nothing can be conclusive until more votes are counted.
