Twisha Sharma's husband Samarth Singh was arrested on Friday, May 22, 2026, 10 days after he went missing following the 33-year-old woman's death at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12.
Samarth Singh, a lawyer by profession, had reached a court in Jabalpur to surrender hours after withdrawing his anticipatory bail plea from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
However, the court directed him to surrender before a court in Bhopal, following which police personnel present on the premises took him into custody.
The case has triggered widespread attention amid allegations by Twisha Sharma's family that she was subjected to dowry harassment by Samarth Singh and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh.
Both have been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act.
The investigation has also come under criticism over alleged lapses in the probe.
Questions were raised after the belt reportedly used in the hanging was not sent for forensic examination.
Allegations of influence over the investigation were also levelled against Giribala Singh, who has been accused of not cooperating with investigators.

As pressure mounted, police increased the reward for information leading to Samarth Singh's arrest from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000 and also moved court seeking revocation of his passport.
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday ordered a second autopsy of Twisha Sharma's body by a team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences doctors.
The procedure will be conducted in Bhopal after demands from her family for a fresh forensic examination.
