A 70-year-old retired Army Brigadier was shot dead in a road rage incident during his morning walk in Johri village, Dehradun, on Monday, news agency ANI reported.

In the incident, two people from two vehicles engaged in an argument that took place near Tula Apartments in the Rajpur area. During the fight, an unidentified attacker fired a gun, which hit the Brigadier, leading to his death on the spot, as per the police officials quoted by ANI.

According to Dehradun SP Pramod Kumar, the incident occurred in the morning when Joshi, a Rajpur local, had headed out for his daily morning walk. “At the same time, two cars sped along the busy Rajpur Road. The occupants of one vehicle were chasing the other and opened fire during the pursuit. Joshi, who had no connection to the incident, was struck by a stray bullet," the Times of India quoted him as saying.

The police confirmed that the suspects abandoned their vehicle a short distance away before fleeing from the scene.

As per an eyewitness, reported by ANI, the incident unfolded during a routine morning walk, “I came across the scene and was told by those with the Brigadier that he had been shot. Apparently, the occupants of two vehicles were firing at one another.”

An FIR has been registered, and an active investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
