The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange advisories throughout Maharashtra due to a severe heat wave. The worst conditions are being seen in the Vidarbha region, where scorching temperatures have surpassed 47°C in numerous districts and set 10-year records.
India is experiencing a severe heat wave, and the IMD has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for UP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Several states have seen temperatures above their ten-year records, with Wardha reaching 47.1°C and Jaipur scorching at 44°C, as per the figures released by IMD today. People have been advised to stay indoors.

The Vidarbha region's Brahmpuri recorded the highest temperature in Maharashtra today, 47.2°C, while with a scorching temperature of 47.0°C, Wardha emerged as the second hottest location in the state, followed by Amravati and Chandrapur with 46.4 degrees, Nagpur 45.7 degrees and Yeotmal at 45.4 degrees, which are among the other Vidarbha districts that are experiencing similar hazardous conditions.
These figures released by IMD suggest that most of the hottest cities in the country belong to the state of Maharashtra, with temperatures surpassing 45 degrees mark.
It's the hottest pre-monsoon season in years, with temperatures in coastal places like Mumbai and the surrounding areas surpassing 41°C earlier in May.
Pune's temperatures are in the high range of 30 to 40 degrees Celsius, which is slightly cooler than Vidarbha. Experts point out that there is little respite from the exceptionally hot nights.
The IMD and local officials strongly advise people and visitors to take precautions since ten-year records are being broken.
The situation is no different in East Madhya Pradesh's Nowgong and Khajuraho cities, where the sweltering heat reached 46.8 and 46.4 degrees, respectively.
It is recommended that residents stay inside as much as possible between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist over northwest and central India throughout the week, according to the India Meteorological Department, which has already issued red and orange alerts in a number of states.
