Election Results 2026: Vijay's TVK Emerges Strong in Tamil Nadu, Bengal Tilts Toward BJP — Key Updates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was on course for a potential victory in West Bengal, leading in nearly 200 seats compared to the ruling Trinamool Congress's 93. The party was also gaining strong ground in Assam. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, actor-politician Vijay's TVK appeared set for a remarkable debut, pushing the ruling DMK down to third place.

Here are 10 key developments

1) As vote counting continues in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has crossed the halfway mark, leading in over 194 seats. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is currently ahead in 93 seats.

2) In Tamil Nadu, Vijay's TVK has emerged as a dominant force, turning the contest into a triangular fight against the DMK and the ADMK+. TVK is leading in over 109 seats, while ADMK+ is close to 50 seats. The ruling DMK is ahead in around 50 seats.

3) In Kerala, UDF has crossed the halfway mark. It looks set to make return as it leads on 85 seats. LDF is leading on 42 seats. BJP is ahead on one seat.

4) In Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has crossed the halfway mark, leading in 97 seats. The Congress is ahead in 26 seats, while the AIUDF is leading in 2 seats.

5) In Puducherry, the incumbent All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) is pulling ahead in its bid to retain power. The AINRC-led alliance is leading in 15 seats, while Congress in 11 seats. Vijay's TVK was initially ahead in 4 seats.

6) In Tamil Nadu, TVK chief Vijay Thalapathy is leading in both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East constituencies.

7) Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is trailing in Dharmadom constituency, where Congress candidate V P Abdul Rasheed has taken the lead. Vijayan, the face of the LDF in the Assembly election, is seeking a mandate from Dharmadom for the third time. In the 2021 Assembly polls, Vijayan had won from Dharmadom with a margin of over 45,000 votes.

8) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is attempting to retain the Jalukbari constituency for the sixth consecutive term. He has established a lead of 18,000 votes over his nearest Congress rival Bidisha Neog.

9)  RG Kar Victim's mother and BJP candidate Ratna Debnath is leading in Bengal election from Panihati constituency.

10) In Baramati by-poll, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP head Sunetra Pawar, who is contesting her first assembly poll, is comfortably ahead of her rivals. The seat fell vacant following the death of then Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28, necessitating the bypoll. In the Rahuri assembly seat byelection, BJP's Akshay Kardile was ahead of his rivals.
