Cyclone Biparjoy Live Updates: IMD Issues Red Message For Saurashtra, Kutch Coasts

Cyclone Biparjoy is likely to cross between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan by the evening of June 15 as a very severe cyclonic storm, the India Meteorological Department said in a statement on Tuesday morning. India Meteorological Department issued a 'Red Message' for Saurashtra and Kutch coasts as cyclone Biparjoy progressed. As of 5:30 a.m. today, the cyclone lays over northeastern Arabian Sea, about 280 km west-southwest of Jakhau Port and 290km west-southwest of Devbhumi Dwarka in Gujarat. The very severe cyclonic storm will cross near Jakhau Port in Gujarat by evening of June 15.

The Indian Metrological Department, on Tuesday, said that Cyclone Biparjoy is now completely detached from the monsoonal flow and will not adversely impact the advance of the rain-bearing system or its performance.

Cyclone Biparjoy can do extensive damage, with Kutch, Dwarka and Jamnagar districts likely to receive the worst of the weather system, PTI reported the India Meteorological Department as saying. The weather department predicted extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in in these districts on June 15.

Civilians have been evacuated to safety before Biparjoy makes landfall. Companies, including ONGC, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, and Gujarat Pipapav Port, have stopped ports and oil drilling operations in the Arabian Sea.
