Ahead of National Handloom Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to back India's handloom sector by purchasing handwoven products and showcasing them on social media, describing the effort as a way to support weavers and preserve the country's textile traditions.
In a video message posted on Instagram and X ahead of National Handloom Day on Aug. 7, Modi urged people to celebrate the occasion with the same enthusiasm as Friendship Day.
He encouraged citizens to buy at least one handloom product, record a short video featuring it and share it online to inspire others to back India's traditional weaving community.
Tomorrow, 7th August is National Handloom Day. Let's make India's handloom diversity popular.

The Prime Minister also traced the significance of Aug. 7 to the launch of the Swadeshi movement in 1905 during India's freedom struggle, saying the campaign became a powerful symbol of self-reliance and indigenous production.
He said National Handloom Day carries forward the same spirit by recognising the contribution of millions of weavers across the country.
Highlighting the role of artisans working from homes and small workshops, Modi said India's handloom sector reflects the country's cultural diversity and craftsmanship.
Greater public support, he added, would not only improve the economic well-being of weaver families but also help showcase Indian handloom products to global audiences.
"Our goal is to build an Atmanirbhar Bharat. For that, even the smallest and poorest families must become economically prosperous," the Prime Minister said, adding that every purchase of a handloom product contributes to preserving a centuries-old tradition while creating sustainable livelihoods for artisans.
