More than a dozen states will experience rainfall, thunderstorms and hailstorm-like weather conditions over the next few days due to a combination of atmospheric developments, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

A low-pressure area hovers over the west-central Bay of Bengal on Friday. It is expected to weaken over the central Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours. “Squally winds of 35 to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, are likely over the central and northeast Bay of Bengal during this period,” the IMD said.

Moreover, upper cyclonic circulations over south Pakistan, Punjab, and northwest Madhya Pradesh are expected to bring rainfall to these regions.

More cyclonic circulations exist over northwest Madhya Pradesh and Bangladesh, among other regions. As a result, up to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms-like weather conditions are likely over northeast and east India for the next seven days, the Met Department said. Similarly, scattered rainfall may persist in parts of northwest and central India till April 12.

Rainfall Predictions By IMD For Several States During Next Week:

April 10: Haryana, east MP, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, north Chhattisgarh will likely get hailstorm.

April 10 and 11: Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand to get moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds; heavy rainfall in Bihar; hailstorm predicted in Punjab; dust storm over west Rajasthan.

April 11 and 12: Rainfall and thunderstorm activities expected in Uttarakhand; West Bengal, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh to get heavy rainfall.

Till April 13: Rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya.

Scattered rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds are likely over Kerala and Mahe over the next seven days. The IMD also warned about similar conditions over Lakshadweep for the next three days.

Between April 17 and 23, the West Himalayan region may experience scattered rainfall. East and northeast India may also get isolated heavy rainfall. Moderate rainfall and lightning is likely over the southern peninsular, the weather body said.
