The National Testing Agency is seeking to bolster its exam delivery infrastructure with the appointment of a general manager – Test Centre Network & Operations (GM-TCNO), who will be responsible for managing large-scale examination operations across multiple centres nationwide.
The GM-TCNO will oversee the seamless conduct of examinations, ensuring that test centres meet prescribed standards for technology, security and infrastructure.
The development comes after the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak triggered widespread protests across the country, prompting the CBI to step in and investigate the matter. The row led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Based at NTA's New Delhi headquarters, the role carries a wide-ranging mandate to ensure examinations are conducted securely, efficiently and without disruptions across the agency's extensive nationwide test-centre network.
The appointment comes as the NTA seeks to strengthen operational standards around high-stakes examinations and build a more resilient examination ecosystem. The agency's mandate for the role reflects an emphasis on scale, security, technology, accessibility and accountability in the delivery of examinations across India.

The role will invole maintaining operational readiness across centres and ensuring that examination-day disruptions are minimised. The official role description highlights the need for strict quality control over facilities at examination centres, including amenities, accessibility and hygiene. The objective is to ensure that students have a consistent and dependable experience irrespective of the location of their examination centre.

The NTA is also looking to expand and optimise its test-centre network, particularly in Tier-3 and Tier-4 cities and aspirational districts. The expansion is aimed at improving the geographical distribution of centres and reducing the travel burden on candidates appearing for major national-level examinations.
Another critical responsibility will be coordination with government and security agencies. The GM-TCNO will be expected to work closely with state and district administrations, law enforcement agencies and intelligence authorities to facilitate secure and coordinated examination operations.
The position will additionally oversee workforce and vendor management. This includes building and training a field workforce comprising examination superintendents and invigilators, while ensuring that vendors are managed through transparent, cost-effective and audit-ready processes.
