Tata Investment, CDSL Among Top 10 Listed Companies With Least Employees: Hurun India List

Tata Investment Corp., JM Financial Ltd. and Central Depository Services (India) Ltd. are among the top 10 listed companies with the least number of employees in the '2024 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500' list.
Tata Investment, operating in the investment industry, has the smallest workforce of 23 persons, according to the Burgundy Private-Hurun India report released on Tuesday. The company is valued at Rs 34,840 crore.
Rattan India, at the second position, has 42 employees, whereas its valuation stands at Rs 9,910 crore. Tips Music is at the third position with 87 employees, while it is valued at Rs 10,880 crore.
Phoenix Mills Ltd. is ranked fourth with 101 employees, Ganesh Housing Corp. fifth with a workforce of 112, and Indian Energy Exchange Ltd. sixth with a total of 170 employees, as per the list.
Anant Raj Ltd. stands at the seventh position with 204 employees, JM Financial is at eighth with a strength of 204 employees, and CDSL ninth with 300 employees. At the 10th position is BLS International Services Ltd., whose employee count stands at 357, according to the report.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500 list features the 500 most valued Indian companies, excluding state-owned enterprises and subsidiaries of foreign firms. The combined value of these companies stands at Rs 324 lakh crore or $3.8 trillion.
These 500 companies are major employers, with their total workforce expanding by 20% in 2024, adding nearly 1.4 million new jobs and bringing the total to 8.4 million employees, said Anas Rahman Junaid, founder and chief researcher of Hurun India.
This accounts for around 16% of India’s workforce—more than the combined population of the Maldives and Iceland, he added.
On an average, each company in the list employs 21,000 people, with 155 firms having more than 10,000 employees. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., leads with the highest workforce, employing 6,31,858 people, followed by Quess Corp Ltd., with 5,74,745 employees, the report said.
