The Information technology employees body—Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate—has submitted a formal complaint to the Union labour ministry against Wipro Ltd., alleging prolonged onboarding delays affecting more than 250 selected fresh graduates across multiple states.

The IT employees body has sought government intervention, saying the candidates remain without joining dates or written communication despite completing all hiring formalities, according to the complaint letter viewed by NDTV Profit on Monday.

The complaint says the affected graduates were selected through campus and off-campus recruitment drives, including specific talent programmes, and were issued letters of intent around May 2025, according to the letter seen by NDTV Profit. In several cases, Wipro also shared confirmed onboarding details, including joining dates and locations, according to the documents viewed by NDTV Profit. All candidates completed documentation and background checks, which the company's systems marked as fully cleared.

Despite this, the company did not onboard the candidates on the promised dates. The complaint says Wipro kept them waiting for six to eight months without issuing any written explanation, revised timeline or formal cancellation. Follow-ups by candidates reportedly resulted in no response or automated replies citing business requirements or future batches.

"The letters of Intent were issued to these candidates around May 2025, confirming their selection and detailing the role, compensation structure and onboarding process. In several cases, the company also issued formal onboarding communications confirming a joining date, work location and completion of documentation formalities," the complaint noted.

NITES said complaints have come from candidates across multiple states, indicating a pan-India issue rather than an isolated delay. It urged the ministry to seek an explanation from the company and direct it to issue clear written decisions to all affected candidates, either by confirming onboarding timelines or providing closure so careers are not left on hold.

NITES added that many candidates declined other job offers or were unable to seek alternative employment due to campus placement rules after accepting Wipro's offer. It said several families now face financial pressure, while candidates remain unemployed months after selection and report mental stress linked to prolonged uncertainty.

The complaint also noted that Wipro continued onboarding other candidates during this period. It alleged a lack of transparency on prioritisation or criteria, leading to unequal treatment among similarly placed candidates. According to the representation, the letters of intent did not disclose that onboarding could be delayed indefinitely without any outer time limit.

Wipro did not immeidately respond to a request for comment by NDTV Profit.
