Goa Tourism and IT Minister Rohan Khaunte said the state is positioning itself as a leading work-from-home destination, aiming to move beyond its traditional image as merely a tourism hotspot.

Highlighting the rise of remote work and digital lifestyles, the minister told NDTV Profit that Goa is increasingly attracting professionals, content creators and digital nomads looking for a healthier work-life balance.

Khaunte said the state does not want to become another Bengaluru or Hyderabad, where rapid urban expansion has resulted in traffic congestion and pressure on infrastructure.

Instead, Goa aims to provide a more relaxed, sustainable and quality-driven environment that suits the expectations of younger generations embracing flexible work culture, he noted.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on work-from-home opportunities and reduced foreign travel, the minister said Goa is well placed to benefit from the growing domestic remote-work trend.

“Work, relax, unwind, repeat” is the model the state hopes to promote among Gen Z and Gen Alpha professionals seeking flexibility and an improved quality of life.

The minister added that while several major cities continue to struggle with traffic congestion and water shortages, Goa already possesses the infrastructure, connectivity and natural environment needed to support long-term remote working and attract digital nomads from across India and abroad.
