US President Donald Trump is addressing the World Economic Forum meeting at the Swiss town of Davos Wednesday evening. His address comes at a time of soaring tensions between the US and Europe and a strain within NATO amid Trump's claim to annex Danish territory of Greenland. The leader has threatened to impose 10% tariff on European Union from Feb. 1 if they do not cede the territory.

Trump said faster economic growth will help pay back the large US government debt. He said the US economy will register large growth rates due to his policies, including tariffs.
The US has a government debt load of $38 trillion.
Donald Trump ended his over one-hour speech at the Davos gathering. He touched upon a host of topics, from his interest to acquire Greenland to the "greatness" of the US economy and lambasting fellow French leader Emmanuel Macron.

"This will not be a threat to NATO. It will greatly enhance the security of the entire alliance. I have been a critic of NATO," he added.

"I have tremendous respect for the people of Greenland and the people of Denmark. But every NATO ally has the obligation to be able to defend their own territory. No nation or a group of nation is in any position to secure Greenland than the US."

Venezuela has been cooperating with the US and will raise oil production. "Venezuela will make more in the next six months than they did in the last 20 years," Trump said.

The tariff policies have benefitted the US, raised American exports, protected domestic industries and did not meet the gloomy predictions made by opponents before, said Donald Trump.
"Certain places in Europe is not even recognisable anymore. I love Europe and I want to see them go good. But it is not heading in the right directions. In recent decades, it became conventional wisdom in Washington and European capital to grow Western economy is through ever increasing government spending, unchecked mass migration and endless foreign imports," said Donald Trump.

"After 12 months back in the White House, our economy is booming, growth is exploding, productivity is surging, investments are surging, incomes are rising, inflation is defeated. Our borders are closed and impenetrable," said Donald Trump.
Donald Trump has threatened to punish Europe using punitive tariffs to force them to cede the Danish territory of Greenland. Most European countries have opposed handing over the autonomous territory to Washington.
Several European leaders are present in Davos and eager to hear how Trump reacts.
