US President Donald Trump is addressing the World Economic Forum meeting at the Swiss town of Davos Wednesday evening. His address comes at a time of soaring tensions between the US and Europe and a strain within NATO amid Trump's claim to annex Danish territory of Greenland. The leader has threatened to impose 10% tariff on European Union from Feb. 1 if they do not cede the territory.
Trump claimed the US should possess Greenland for not just US security but "international security".
Trump said faster economic growth will help pay back the large US government debt. He said the US economy will register large growth rates due to his policies, including tariffs.
The US has a government debt load of $38 trillion.
Trump is now speaking to a WEF official for a fireside chat.
Donald Trump ended his over one-hour speech at the Davos gathering. He touched upon a host of topics, from his interest to acquire Greenland to the "greatness" of the US economy and lambasting fellow French leader Emmanuel Macron.
Donald Trump said he has interviewed some "great people" for the next Federal Reserve Chairman and slammed current head Jerome Powell for allegedly keeping interest rates high against his wishes.
"We should be paying the lowest interest rates in the world. Without us, most countries don't even work, without our military you have threats," said Donald Trump.
"China wanted the crypto market just like AI. It (cryptocurrency) is politically popular. We have to get a hold on it," said Donald Trump.
Trump said he threatened French President Emmanuel Macron to raise prescription drug prices or face steep punitive tariffs on exports.
The US stock market will double in value because of me, said Donald Trump.
"I am meeting with Putin and Zelensky. They want to make a deal. In doing it, I am helping NATO and Europe. Until the last few days till I told them about Greenland, they loved me and called me 'Daddy'," he said.

"I don't have to use force (to get Greenland). All the US is asking for is Greenland, where we already had it as a trustee and returned to Denmark after World War Two."
Donald Trump again claimed he was involved in "settling" the India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025.
"It's the US alone that can protect Greenland. That's the reason I am seeking immediate negotiations to once again discuss the acquisition of Greenland. Just as we have acquired many territories in history," said Trump.
"This will not be a threat to NATO. It will greatly enhance the security of the entire alliance. I have been a critic of NATO," he added.
"I have tremendous respect for the people of Greenland and the people of Denmark. But every NATO ally has the obligation to be able to defend their own territory. No nation or a group of nation is in any position to secure Greenland than the US."
Venezuela has been cooperating with the US and will raise oil production. "Venezuela will make more in the next six months than they did in the last 20 years," Trump said.
The tariff policies have benefitted the US, raised American exports, protected domestic industries and did not meet the gloomy predictions made by opponents before, said Donald Trump.
"Certain places in Europe is not even recognisable anymore. I love Europe and I want to see them go good. But it is not heading in the right directions. In recent decades, it became conventional wisdom in Washington and European capital to grow Western economy is through ever increasing government spending, unchecked mass migration and endless foreign imports," said Donald Trump.

"The US is the economic engine of the planet. When America booms, the entire world booms."
"After 12 months back in the White House, our economy is booming, growth is exploding, productivity is surging, investments are surging, incomes are rising, inflation is defeated. Our borders are closed and impenetrable," said Donald Trump.
"Good to be back here. So many friends, few enemies," said Trump.
Donald Trump has threatened to punish Europe using punitive tariffs to force them to cede the Danish territory of Greenland. Most European countries have opposed handing over the autonomous territory to Washington.
Several European leaders are present in Davos and eager to hear how Trump reacts.
US President Donald Trump will attend the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos today. He last attended Davos during his first presidency in 2018.
The World Economic Forum has invited the heads of government and state of the G-20 and other countries to the Annual Meeting 2026.
