A suspicious package at the Trump Tower in Manhattan prompted a frantic response from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) bomb squad and the US Secret Service on Monday.

The authorities responded quickly after the package was found at 725 Fifth Avenue. According to the police, a 911 call was received around 4:20 p.m. Traffic in Midtown Manhattan was briefly disrupted.

According to a Newsweek report, no evacuations, injuries or arrests were reported in the incident. Soon after the incident, videos began emerging on social media, showing a large police and emergency response outside the building.

The development follows amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, triggered after the United States-Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28. Due to the conflict and expected retaliatory attacks from Iran, the US agencies remain on a high alert.

New York City's emergency notification system posted on X, "Police Activity: Expect traffic delays, road closures, mass transit disruptions and emergency personnel near 5th Avenue and West 56th Street, Manhattan. Avoid the area."

According to NBC New York, the authorities were able to determine that the package was not a threat around 6 p.m. Later in the evening, anti-war protestors flooded the area outside the Trump Tower as they voiced their opposition to President Donald Trump's military action against Iran.

The Feb. 28 strikes resulted in the killing of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The incident also prompted a sharp retaliatory response from Tehran against its Gulf neighbours. Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, among others were targeted by Iranian missiles and drones for “supporting” US military activities in the region.

On Tuesday, the US embassy in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh was also targeted by a drone attack, resulting in “limited fire” in the compound, according to Saudi officials.

These events led to heightened scrutiny of the suspicious package at the 58‑storey Trump Tower. The skyscraper, located on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, opened in 1983. It contains retail and office spaces, the Trump Organisation headquarters, and the penthouse residence of its developer, President Donald Trump.
