Cannes 2024: Seven Indian Films To Screen, Bharat Parv Set Up At The Festival
Filmmaker George Lucas will be presented with an honorary Palme d'Or during the closing ceremony on May 25.

The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival kicked off on Tuesday with the presentation of an honorary Palme d'Or for actor Meryl Streep and the unveiling of filmmaker Greta Gerwig's jury. The film festival is being hosted at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in the French Riviera from May 14 to May 25. With the theme 'Many Ways To Be An Icon', the festival is focused on honouring confidence and self-empowerment.
As the French Riviera unfolds its doors for a 10-day glamorous red-carpet event, where even the photographers dress in tuxedos, the festival will host a multitude of actors, directors, and industry experts.
The Olympic torch will also be ignited on May 21 at the main location of the festival, the Palais des Festivals.
Indian Movies At Cannes
12 Indian films are all set to create history in the prestigious film festival. One of these is the Malayalam film 'All We Imagine As Light' directed by Payal Kapadia, which is contending for the prestigious Palme d'Or. Remarkably, this is the first Indian film to vie for this accolade in three decades.
British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri's 'Santosh' will be featured in the Un Certain Regard section, while Shyam Benegal's iconic film, 'Manthan', will return in the Cannes Classics section with a 4K-restored version.
Seven Indian movies are being showcased, while the remaining are participating in various sub-categories throughout the festival.
India will also host a 'Bharat Parv' at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for distinguished guests and representatives from across the globe to demonstrate the diverse creative possibilities in the nation.
India At The Red Carpet
The widely publicised event is popular for its glamours red carpet looks, which are slightly controversial and risqué have produced some unforgettable looks over the years- with Cannes regular Aishwarya Rai Bachchan leading with the most memorable looks. The Miss World 1996 is ready to participate in the film festival. Other Indian celebrities attending the event include Kiara Advani, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sobhita Dhulipala.
Important Artists To Grace The Festival
The spotlight during Cannes will be on actors Emma Stone, Anya Taylor-Joy, Demi Moore, Nicolas Cage and Barry Keoghan gracing the festival's famous red carpet.
