A superyacht linked to Russian billionaire Alexey Mordashov passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, Reuters reported citing shipping data, marking one of few vessels to transit the key connectivity route following the US-Iran conflict.

The 142-metre (465-foot) yacht worth more than  $500 million named Nord had left from Dubai marina at around 1400 GMT on Friday, crossed the strait on Saturday morning, and arrived in Muscat early on Sunday, it added.

Alexey Mordashov is widely known to have close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Notably, it remains unclear how the multi-deck vessel received permission to use the route. Since Fenruary, Iran has strictlly restricted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz,  a route which typically handles nearly one-fifth of global oil supply.

Only few, primarily merchant vessels are passing everyday throught the Strait as Washington and Tehran maintain an temporary ceasefire. This signifies around a fraction of the average 125 to 140 daily passages before the Iran war began on February 28.
