Tesla Ceo and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has spent around $366 million on the 2026 US midterm elections so far, which incliudes $276 million since July, this year, as he seeks to help Republicans retain control of Congress, as reported by Reuters.

His spending comes as Democrats have improved their chances of regaining control of the US House of Representatives and the Senate.

The spending, which was reported earlier by The New York Times, and now cited by Reuters, makes Musk, the world's richest person, and likely the biggest individual political donor in this year's elections, according to campaign finance records.

A spokesman for Musk's super PAC, America PAC, confirmed the figures to Reuters.

Where Is Elon Musk's Political Money Going?

Musk has spent approximately $366 million during the current election cycle, which began on January 1, 2025. Of that amount, at least $276 million has gone to Republican groups and his own super PAC since July.

The third-quarter donations include $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC that supports Republican candidates for the Senate and is aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota.

Another $20 million went to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC supporting House Republicans that is aligned with House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana.

Musk's America PAC received $76 million, while $10 million went to the Lone Star Liberty PAC, which is backing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's campaign for the US Senate.

Paxton is running against Democrat James Talarico in Texas, where recent polls have shown the race to be closely contested.

Musk also donated $10 million to the Republican Governors Association and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.

How Is Musk Supporting Republican Candidates?

America PAC is helping Republican candidates in seven battleground states, as well as in nearly three dozen House races.

The latest donations are expected to become public when many super PACs are required to disclose their third-quarter spending on Thursday.

Musk has also channelled money through groups that do not disclose their donors, according to The New York Times report, a detail confirmed by an America PAC spokesman.

These contributions add another layer to Musk's political spending, making it difficult to determine the full extent of his financial support for Republican candidates and causes.

How Much Did Musk Spend In The Previous Election Cycle?

Musk spent approximately $290 million during the previous US election cycle, while His spending on the 2026 midterms has already reached roughly $366 million, according to the campaign finance figures.

His latest contributions come at a time when control of Congress is a key issue for both parties. Republicans are seeking to retain their majorities, while Democrats are looking to improve their position in the House and Senate.

With Musk directing hundreds of millions of dollars towards Republican-aligned political groups, his financial support has emerged as a significant factor in the 2026 midterm election campaign.
