Google Trends continues to offer a real-time mirror of what is capturing public attention in India. Over the past few days, search activity has surged around high-voltage IPL clashes, landmark state election results and a political shift in Tamil Nadu. Here is a breakdown of the key trending searches shaping online conversations since the last few days.
Thalapathy Vijay
The name dominating Google search charts this week is Tamil movie superstar Thalapathy Vijay. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), won 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2026 to emerge as the state's single largest party, ending a 59-year lock on power shared between the DMK and the AIADMK. The April 23 elections recorded a turnout of 85.1%, with Vijay winning from both seats he contested.
With all eyes on Thalapathy Vijay, let us also recall all the celebrities who went on to become the Chief Minister of a state in India. MG Ramachandran, the first actor to become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, held the post from 1977 until his death in 1987.
Then there was Jayalalithaa who joined AIADMK under MGR and became Chief Minister in 1991, and served six terms over 14 years. From Andhra Pradesh, NT Rama Rao founded the Telugu Desam Party in 1982 and served four terms as CM between 1983 and 1995.

LSG vs RCB
Lucknow Super Giants finally had something to celebrate on Thursday, courtesy of a Mitchell Marsh masterclass. The Australian all-rounder scored 111 off just 56 balls to set up a total of 209/3 against defending IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, before Prince Yadav did the damage with the ball. Even a rain interruption couldn't unsettle LSG, who held on to win by nine runs in a 19-over contest at the Ekana Stadium against RCB.
DC vs CSK
Chennai Super Kings registered a comfortable eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals on May 5, thanks to an unbeaten 87 off 52 balls from Sanju Samson. Chasing 156, CSK looked in control for most of the innings and reached the target with ease after restricting DC to 155/7. The victory gave CSK an important boost in the points table, moving them to sixth place with 10 points from 10 matches.
TN Election Results
Data on Google Trends highlights that Tamil Nadu election results have remained among the most-searched topics on the internet over the past few days. Both search terms crossed the 5 million+ mark, reflecting massive nationwide interest in the Tamil Nadu verdict. Counting for all 234 constituencies took place on May 4, with voters turning out in record numbers.
ECI Results
As counting progressed on May 4 for both West Bengal and Tamil Nadu election results, people across the country closely tracked updates released by the Election Commission of India, making the official ECI result declarations one of the most-followed developments online. From constituency-wise leads to final seat tallies, search activity remained consistently high throughout the counting process and even in the days that followed.
Suvendu Adhikari
BJP's Suvendu Adhikari defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her own Bhabanipur seat, as BJP swept West Bengal with 206 of the 293 seats. Adhikari is set to take oath as the 9th Chief Minister of West Bengal on 9 May 2026. He will be the first from the BJP to hold the office.
