Aman Gottumukkala, an Indian-origin developer known for launching the AI coding assistant Firebender, has joined Elon Musk's artificial intelligence firm xAI. At the company, he will contribute to building advanced systems capable of generating computer code with minimal human input.

Gottumukkala shared the news in a post on X, noting that his work at xAI would also involve collaboration with teams associated with SpaceX. His focus will be on developing powerful coding AI tools intended to automate programming tasks and make software creation faster and more efficient.

"For the last couple years I founded the most widely used coding agent for Android, scaling it to millions in revenue with a team of 3. I've watched model capabilities compound at a staggering rate and we're clearly on the brink of recursive superintelligence. This is the most important problem to solve in history and requires an immense amount of resources to realise,” he said.

“xAI is the place to build the future. Frontier compute, extraordinary talent, and a strong hold on physical intelligence and space,” he added.

Who Is Aman Gottumukkala?

The Texas-based developer and entrepreneur earned his bachelor's degree in computer science from Texas A&M University, studying from 2017 to 2021. Earlier in his academic journey, he attended the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science.

As per his LinkedIn profile, he founded Firebender in August 2023.

Firebender is an artificial intelligence tool built specifically to support Android developers. It aims to simplify coding by helping programmers create, organise and maintain their software more efficiently.

The platform operates within established development tools, including Android Studio and JetBrains IDEs, allowing users to automate routine processes and accelerate the coding workflow.

Firebender quickly gained traction among developers after its launch. Engineering teams began adopting the tool to boost productivity and cut down the time spent on repetitive coding tasks. What drew particular attention was the size of the team behind it: a small group of just three people that reportedly managed to grow the startup to generate millions in revenue.

Despite operating with a team of just three people, the startup reportedly brought in millions in revenue, attracting considerable interest within the developer community. The venture emerged from Y Combinator, a well-known accelerator that has helped launch numerous technology startups.

Prior to launching Firebender, Gottumukkala spent time as a software engineer at Paradigm, where he worked on technology projects related to the crypto industry. During this period, he was also selected as a KP Fellow, a competitive fellowship that links emerging talent with investors and startup mentors in Silicon Valley.
