Samsung is bringing Perplexity to the Galaxy S26, allowing users to choose between Bixby, Gemini and a third AI assistant.

'Hey Plex': Samsung Adds Perplexity As Second AI Assistant Ahead of Galaxy S26 Launch

Samsung has unveiled plans to add a second AI assistant to its flagship smartphone range, announcing a partnership with Perplexity ahead of the Galaxy S26 launch.

Alongside Perplexity, users of the upcoming Galaxy S26 series will be able to choose between Samsung's updated Bixby and Gemini, underscoring the company's push towards a multi-assistant ecosystem.

The collaboration will allow users to access the AI service using a custom wake phrase, “Hey Plex”, or via a long press of the device's side button. The feature is designed to sit alongside existing AI tools, giving users more flexibility and a personalised experience as part of the upcoming handset refresh.

“Deeply embedded across select Samsung apps — including Samsung Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder and Calendar, as well as select third-party apps — Perplexity's AI agent enables smoother, multi-step workflows, allowing users to move seamlessly between tasks without manually managing individual apps. This system-level approach offers Galaxy users a richer and more flexible AI experience across the device,” Samsung said.

By allowing multiple AI assistants to operate side by side, Samsung Electronics is signalling a shift in how it envisions artificial intelligence on its devices. Rather than relying on a single assistant, the company is opening up its operating system to different AI agents, reflecting the way users increasingly turn to specialised tools for different tasks.

“We've been committed to building an open and inclusive integrated AI ecosystem that gives users more choice, flexibility and control to get complex tasks done quickly and easily,” said Won-Joon Choi, President, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Head of the R&D Office, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Galaxy AI acts as an orchestrator, bringing together different forms of AI into a single, natural, cohesive experience.”

Samsung Electronics and Perplexity began collaborating last year, when the AI-powered search service was incorporated into Samsung's smart television platform.

Samsung is expected to shed more light on its AI partnerships and multi-assistant plans at its Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for Feb. 25. The event will likely offer a deeper look at the company's overall AI direction, as well as key technical details of the S26 smartphones.
