Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the first team to qualify for the Women's Premier League (WPL) play-offs after a commanding 61-run win over Gujarat Giants on Monday. Opting to bowl first, Gujarat Giants made early inroads but failed to maintain the pressure as RCB recovered strongly. Gautami Naik scored a fluent 73, while Richa Ghosh and Radha Yadav provided valuable support to help Royal Challengers Bengaluru post a competitive 178 for 6 in 20 overs.
In reply, Gujarat Giants struggled to build momentum and were restricted to 117 for 8, falling well short of the target.
At the top of the points table, RCB hold a clear lead over the other four teams. Led by Smriti Mandhana, RCB are unbeaten in the tournament. They have won all five matches so far, and even have the highest net run rate.
Mumbai Indians, UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants have all played five matches and suffered three defeats each. All three are on four points each. This leaves the race for the remaining three play-off spots wide open. Delhi Capitals are placed at the bottom of the standings with just two points from four matches.
