Union Berlin appointed Marie-Louise Eta as interim head coach, making a landmark milestone for Bundesliga's 62-year old history. The club confirmed Louise Eta's appointment on Saturday. Union Berlin named Eta as their interim head coach for the remainder of the season following the dismissal of Steffen Baumgart.
The decision comes after a 3-1 defeat to FC Heidenheim, a result that left Union Berlin eleventh of the Bundesliga table with 32 points.

Eta has made history at the club and in Bundesliga. In November 2023, she became the league's first female assistant coach, and in January 2024, she became the first woman to lead a Bundesliga team from the touchline during a 1-0 win over Darmstadt 98, when then-manager Nenad Bjelica was serving a suspension.
Eta takes on the new role with immediate effect.

"I'm delighted that the club has entrusted me with this challenging responsibility. A strength of Union has always been, and continues to be, to pull all our forces together in such situations. And of course, I'm convinced that with the team, we'll secure the crucial points," Eta said on her appointment.
The 34-year-old has represented Germany in junior age categories and used to play as a midfielder. As an Under-19 international she played the 2009 and 2010 U-19 European Championships.
Union Berlin will next play Wolfsburg in a Bundesliga match on Saturday.
