A distressing incident brought play to a halt during the Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings IPL 2026 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 25, as Lungi Ngidi left the field in an ambulance after landing awkwardly on his head in the outfield. The DC players were visibly distraught, as they stood around their teammate with concerned expressions while medics attended to him on the field.

The incident occurred in the third over of Punjab's chase. Taking on Axar Patel, Priyansh Arya miscued a shot high towards mid-off. Ngidi backpedalled to get under the ball but lost his balance and fell backwards, landing heavily on the back of his head on the hard outfield. The momentum of the fall caused his body to tumble further, adding further stress to his neck and head.

Play was stopped instantly as Ngidi lay on the ground in visible distress. The DC medical staff and tournament doctor rushed in, and after a lengthy on-field assessment, an ambulance was driven onto the field, to take him for further medical evaluation.

Ngidi has been a key part of DC's bowling unit this season. The 30-year-old has seven wickets in seven matches, playing a key role in the powerplay and middle overs. His potential absence could be a big setback for the Capitals, especially with Mitchell Starc only recently joining the squad, making his way back after injury.

Injuries have been a recurring theme this season. It's the third time this week that the concussion protocols have been put to use. Both the earlier incidents have involved MI players with Corbin Bosch hit by a bouncer against GT, while Mitchell Santner fell heavily when taking a catch against CSK.

DC have brought in Vipraj Nigam to replace Ngidi as a concussion sub in the second innings, allowing the 21-year-old to bowl in the chase.

Earlier in the game, KL Rahul smashed an unbeaten 152* off 67 balls, the highest-ever T20 score by an Indian batter, to power DC to a mammoth total of 264/2. Nitish Rana also found some form, adding 91 off 44 balls.

In response, PBKS have smashed 116/0 in the powerplay, with both openers laying a solid base for the team to build on in this high-scoring game.
