The Ministry of Finance has provided key updates regarding the timeline of the 8th Central Pay Commission as well as the proposed changes related to salaries, allowances and pensions.
In a written reply to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, it stated that the 8th Pay Commission will submit the report within a defined time frame. Further, it clarified the current status and discussed the roadmap for the implementation of 8th CPC recommendations.
Government Clarifies Status
Lok Sabha MP A Raja had asked about the key areas under review in the 8th Pay Commission along with the proposed changes in the pay scales, salaries/allowances and pension structures. He even asked about the timeline proposed for submission of the CPC report along with the Centre's roadmap for implementation of its recommendations.
Responding to the unstarred question (No. 4851) on March 23, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed that the central government has notified the resolution dated Nov. 3, 2025, for constitution of 8th Central Pay Commission, along with appointment of the Chairperson and Members.
The commission "will make its recommendations on various issues viz. Pay, Allowances, Pension, etc. of the Central Government employees within 18 months of its constitution," the minister added.

Further, it was informed that the fiscal impact of the recommendations of 8th CPC "will be known, once the recommendations are made by the 8th CPC and are accepted by the Government". This highlights that the Pay Commission will review and recommend changes across all major components of compensation, such as basic pay and DA structure.
A key takeaway here is the timeline for submission of the report. Chaudhary has reiterated the earlier announcement that the panel is required to submit the report “within 18 months of its constitution”.
This further sets the deadline when employees can expect the recommendations to be finalised. Usually, after the submission of the report, the government will review and then take further decisions on its implementation.
The revised pay scales are expected to be implemented from Jan. 1, 2026. But the final decision might depend on when the report is submitted and accepted.
Recently, the 8th Central Pay Commission granted more time for stakeholders to respond to its 18-point questionnaire. The submissions are now accepted until March 31, 2026. Earlier, the deadline was March 16.
