Foreign institutional investors became sellers in the cash market for the second consecutive day on Thursday, while they remained net sellers in index options, stock options, index futures and stock futures.
FIIs In Cash Market
Overseas investors remained net sellers of Indian equities on Thursday for the second consecutive day, while domestic institutional investors remained net buyers for the third consecutive session.
Foreign portfolio investors offloaded stocks worth Rs 3,560 crore, whereas the DIIs bought stocks worth Rs 2,646.7 crore, according to provisional data shared by the National Stock Exchange.
In December so far, the foreign institutional investors have mopped up equities worth Rs 9,371.6 crore, whereas the domestic institutional investors purchased stocks worth Rs 5,404.7 crore
In November, the FPIs sold stocks worth Rs 45,974.1 crore, and the DIIs mopped up stocks worth Rs 44,483.9 crore. In October, the FPIs sold equities worth Rs 1.14 lakh crore, and the DIIs bought equities worth Rs 1.07 lakh crore.
In 2024 so far, foreign institutions have been net sellers of Rs 11,310 crore worth of Indian equities, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd., updated till the previous trading day.
FIIs In Futures And Options
Ahead of the Dec. 24 expiry, the value of outstanding positions — also called open interest in the derivatives segment — has decreased for the FIIs in Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 40%:60%.
The FIIs sold index futures worth Rs 1,373 crore, index options worth Rs 49,511 crore, stock futures worth Rs 5,171 crore, and stock options worth Rs 3,163 crore.
FII Contract Value
The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market decreased by Rs 177 crore at the end of December expiry from Rs 27,575 crore a day earlier to Rs 27,398 crore.
F&O Cues
The Nifty December futures were down by 0.36% to 24,647 at a premium of 99 points, with the open interest down by 0.3%.
The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Dec. 19 expiry series indicated most activity at 26,000 call strikes, with the 23,000 put strikes having maximum open interest.
Long-Short Ratio
The total long-short ratio for foreign investors rose to 1.15 from 1.12 in the earlier session.
