US Market Wrap

Volatility lashed Wall Street, pushing high-valuation technology shares and crypto lower while bonds pared losses after a senior Federal Reserve official signaled room for rate cuts, reports Bloomberg.

A tech rout hit stocks amid growing skepticism about the artificial-intelligence trade. Nvidia Corp. sank 3.8%. Losses accelerated as the S&P 500 breached a key technical level, with the index down 1.2%. The Nasdaq 100 slid 1.9%. In late hours, Micron Technology Inc. gave an upbeat forecast.

Asian Market Update

Asian stocks advanced after softer US inflation data strengthened expectations of Federal Reserve rate cuts, while easing concerns around the technology sector lifted sentiment in American markets.

Equities in Japan and Australia rose alongside Hong Kong futures, tracking Wall Street’s gains, where the S&P 500 climbed 0.8% and the Nasdaq 100 surged 1.5% on Thursday, reports Bloomberg.

Commodity Check

Oil extended gains for a second straight session as geopolitical tensions in Venezuela and Russia eclipsed concerns over a still-weak global supply outlook.

Brent crude briefly climbed toward $61 a barrel before trimming intraday gains in choppy trade, after US President Donald Trump avoided referencing Venezuela in a White House address. West Texas Intermediate was trading above $56 a barrel.

Precious metals held near record levels, supported by softer-than-expected US inflation data that reinforced expectations of further interest-rate cuts. Gold and silver hovered close to all-time highs, while platinum lingered near a 17-year peak. Spot gold was around $4,330 an ounce and on course for a second weekly advance, after core US consumer prices rose at the slowest pace since early 2021, reports Bloomberg.
